Tennessee Democrats propose that state holidays be replaced by Columbus Day and that Super Bowl Monday is the new holiday.
The bill was introduced by Democrats Joe Towns Jr., Senator London Lamar, and Joe Towns Jr. on Wednesday. It suggested that the state eliminate any recognition for Columbus Day and instead create Super Bowl Monday holidays to commemorate the game.
Thus far, the bill’s summary only reads, “As introduced, removes Columbus Day as a legal holiday; designates the first Monday after the Super Bowl as a legal holiday.”
Democrats claim the bill would alter Tennessee Code “by deleting the language, ‘the second Monday in October, known as ‘Columbus Day,’”Inserting the language “the first Monday after the Super Bowl, known as ‘Super Bowl Monday.’”
It seems that this bill exists for one purpose: To serve as a wake-up call on Columbus Day.
Columbus Day was declared a National Holiday in 1937 by President Franklin D Roosevelt, Oct. 12, to celebrate the Italian explorer and pioneer who many believe helped. “discover the New World.” However, while it is a federal holiday, despite these Democrats’ desire to denigrate Columbus Day with their bill, the truth is the day is not an official state holiday already in the Volunteer State. So, Tennessee’s state offices are open on Columbus Day and the weekend.
This bill does not change anything except that it adds language to officially deny its existence as an official holiday.
However, the bill accomplishes one thing very well. To those who dislike Columbus Day or want to have it replaced by something better, the bill is a virtue signal. “indigenous people’s day”It is now very common in many areas that are deep blue and Democrat-governed.
Many people believe that making Monday after Super Bowl Sunday a holiday is a good idea. This is because many Americans go to parties and then have poor production at work and school the next day.

However, over-partying should not be considered a reason to establish a new state or national holiday. The occasion of the western emigration to the new world deserves more attention as it establishes a foundation for society’s stability. This is better than celebrating after an evening of drinking.
