Breitbart News exclusively learned that Senator Marsha Blackburn, a Republican from Tennessee, stated in a Saturday speech that the American people would force Big Tech into the negotiation table.
“What I think people fail to realize is that we have never put any meaningful regulations on tech companies. That may have made sense when Google and Facebook were still in garages, but these are very sophisticated actors that are more than capable of dealing with a modest compliance framework,” Blackburn said in prepared remarks to the Club for Growth’s Foundation Tech Colloquium on Saturday.
Blackburn explained how Congress could create a technology policy platform that addresses privacy, the Kids Online Safety Act(KOSA), Open App Markets Acts, crypto, and other issues. He also discussed the reasons why Congress shouldn’t impose government pressure on free speech. Hunter Biden’s laptop), and Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.
Because she is a senator from Tennessee, and because she has decades of expertise in technology policy, the conservative Tennessee politician will hold significant influence over technology policy.
Blackburn stated that Congress should strike a compromise that will limit the excesses and censorship of Big Tech while still allowing innovation to thrive.
Privacy
“Consumers and regulators alike are stuck in a situation where we no longer trust tech companies, but we can’t live our lives without them,”Blackburn stated.
Blackburn, who produced substantial technology legislation, such as the BROWSER Act in the House, took her tech experience to the Senate in 2019 to create the bipartisan Technology Task Force on the Judiciary Committee. It looked into bipartisan potential solutions for platform regulation and harms from social media.
Blackburn stated, “A federal privacy standard must be preempted.” “one set of rules for the entire internet ecosystem.”According to her, the privacy standard must clarify what business can do with customers’ data. Congress must modernize Federal Trade Commission (FTC). This is due to the fact that it hasn’t been reauthorized in the 1990s.
Ongoing Legislative Solutions
Blackburn said she remains optimistic that Congress can still pass the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), a bill to empower parents to take control over children’s online experiences to protect their health and well-being, and the Open App Markets Act, a bill that would break up the Apple and Google app store duopoly.

Cryptocurrency
Blackburn stated that she has been working with Sen. Cynthia Lummis, a Republican from Wyoming, to inform lawmakers about the most recent developments in cryptocurrency and bitcoin regulations. Blackburn warned that legislative solutions are less likely due to the ongoing legal fights around the digital currency exchange FTX, and the disgraced ex-FTX CEO Sam BankmanFried. Instead of focusing on legislation, oversight will take center stage. But, she warned that the farm law could serve as an instrument for a crypto-legislative solution.
China
Blackburn said she sponsored the Say No to the Silk Road Act, which would set new standards and guidelines for China’s central bank digital currency, or the Digital Yuan.
According to her, she was the one who sponsored Secure Equipment Act. It is now a public law. This bill instructs the FCC not to authorize phones or tablets to be used in the U.S. if the device’s manufacturer poses a threat to national security.
Section 230 And Censorship
Blackburn stated that the revelations in Twitter Files were “astonishing”. “If anything, it was worse because they saw just how normalized the culture of government-driven censorship had become in Silicon Valley.”
“You can rest assured that I will not allow any legislation that increases censorship to move forward in Congress,”She said.
Blackburn stated that she worked with legislators to develop bipartisan suggestions that would reduce the impact of the iconic intermediary liability law, which allows Meta to be sued. “manipulate you and your children with reckless regard.”
Conclusion
Blackburn stated that Americans will continue to expect Congress’s help in finding the answer. “balance”There is a balance between solving tech problems and stifling new ideas. But she pointed out that Americans are the ones who will bring about these laws.
Her explanation was: “It’s not going to be congressional subpoenas that bring tech companies to the table. Their customers are going to force them there.”
