A New York City off-duty police officer has been critically injured after being hit in the head by a burglary attempt.
Officials revealed that the officer was a 26-year old and five-year veteran from New York Police Department. They traveled with a relative down to Ruby Street, Brooklyn, to buy a car in a deal arranged via social media.
The suspect pulled out his gun upon arrival. “announced a robbery,”According to Michael Baldassano (assistant chief of the NYPD Detective Bureau), there was a gunfire exchange that resulted in the officer being struck.
Keechant Sewell of the NYPD stated that Sewell was in critical condition and had been taken to Brookdale Hospital. “Please keep this young officer in your prayers. He is currently fighting for his life,”Sewell said.

Baldassano claimed that the suspect ran from the scene where the shooting occurred. Police requested the public’s assistance to find the suspect. Anybody with information should call CrimeStoppers 1-800-577-TIPS.
Baldassano stated that the police were also responsible. “no reason to believe”Although the suspect suspected that the off-duty officer was the intended target, he maintained that the incident remains under investigation.
Eric Adams, New York City Democratic Mayor, said that the officer who was wounded is married with children. “We will catch the person responsible for this act,”He stated.
Police said that the officer’s relative was uninjured. This is according to New York Daily News.
Patrick Lynch of the Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York stated that lawmakers are living in a “stupid” state. “fantasy world” when they talk about crime as if it’s not real. “We’ve asked for help before. We’re asking and demanding help now,”He stated.
Kathy Hochul, New York Democratic Governor, sent well-wishes to the officer and condemned the evil of gun violence.
“I am praying for the recovery of an off-duty [NYPD] officer who was shot during an attempted robbery last night,” Hochul tweeted. “Everyone deserves to feel safe in our state. I will keep doing everything in my power to combat illegal gun trafficking and the gun violence epidemic.”
