Hungary’s national media regulator has launched an investigation into streaming giant Netlfix over a children’s cartoon that features a lesbian kiss between two teenage girls – a possible violation of its 2021 law prohibiting LGBT-themed material targeted at children.
Following complaints from concerned parents on the conservative petition site CitizenGo, the National Media and Communications Authority (NMHH) of Hungary announced that it would investigate Netflix over an episode in the children’s cartoon programme Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous
A report by the Magyar Nemzet Children as young as 7 years old are encouraged to read the national newspaper of Hungary. A kiss takes place between two teens in the ninth episode. “to confirm the naturalness of the homosexual relationship, the young people’s family and friends also approve and support them in the story, saying how happy the two ‘girlfriends’ are together,”According to the Hungarian paper.
This cartoon appears to violate the Hungarian law against transgender content aimed at children. However, the NMHH is yet to decide if they will take legal action against Netflix for the cartoon. Netflix Hungary has been registered in the Netherlands so the Hungarian media regulator might have to bring the matter up with the Dutch authorities.

Hungary is one of Europe’s most conservative member states. The 2021 law that prohibits schools and media from encouraging transgender or homosexual content for children in their classrooms has triggered a backlash from many Western establishment media. “Hungarian anti-LGBT law”.
A spokesperson for the government said that the law was being defended at the time by: “There are contents which children under a certain age can misunderstand and which may have a detrimental effect on their development at the given age, or which children simply cannot process, and which could therefore confuse their developing moral values or their image of themselves or the world.”
The European Commission, however, announced it will sue Budapest’s government for violating EU-level media freedom laws.
Should the investigation into the children’s cartoon lead to legal proceedings, Hungary would not be the only government to have taken action against Netflix, with a grand jury in Texas in the United States indicting the streaming site on charges of child pornography for the 2020 film Cuties, It has been accused by young girls of sexualising them.
Backlash against PetsNetflix’s decline in popularity has been blamed on it.
Hollywood appears to be refusing to limit content that is targeted at the Hungarian youth, however, Disney and other companies have no problem censoring content that meets religious standards. For example, a Disney lesbian kiss was removed from the Disney Parks.Star Wars: The Rise of SkywalkerMany Islamic countries allow film to be made.
Disney also accepted the strict Singaporean censorship guidelines and gave them a kiss.
