Throughout her acceptance speech on Sunday, Curtis thanked her household, together with husband Christopher Visitor and “our daughters” Annie and Ruby. Later, talking backstage, the actress instructed reporters that regardless of being “a mother of a trans daughter,” she isn’t essentially in favor of gender-neutral performing classes for awards exhibits.
“As the mother of a trans daughter I completely understand that,” Curtis reportedly stated. “And yet, to de-gender the category, also, I’m concerned [that] will diminish the opportunities for more women, which is something I also have been working hard to try to promote. So it’s a complicated question, but I think the most important thing is inclusivity and more women.”
Curtis publicly acknowledged her trans “daughter” Ruby in an interview final 12 months. Ruby was born a boy who was identified for years as Thomas earlier than starting to identifyas a woman.
Curtis gained the Oscar for greatest supporting actress for the indie sci-fi comedy Every part All over the place All at As soon as, which collected a complete of seven Oscars, together with greatest image.
